1.1. Creative Product Design

In this design sprint, we create design concepts from your high level goals and vision.

 

Use the results
• to communicate your product to investors or customers,
• to start a conversation with manufacturers,
• to initiate low-fidelity proof of concept tests.

You should provide
• basic project goals,
• target audience and user information,
• business model and revenue stream,
• bottlenecks supplemented by any relevant preliminary information regarding the project,

Challenge mapping

We kick off with a Challenge Mapping Workshop focusing on setting up concrete product requirements. Challenge Mapping is a 3-step methodology developed at Maform. With its help, we can translate high level company goals into product requirements within just one day.

research

Desktop research aiming to give a brief overview of the positioning opportunities of the product. Contains a search for similar products, analogous solutions used in different fields, and possible material usage. We set up a list of requirements for later evaluation phases.

 

mood board

We collect inspiration and good examples for mapping the project goals in terms of styling and visual appearance. This speeds up communication about visual notions and saves time in later phases of the project.

 

idea sketches

Holistic and detail ideas concerning the product. These ideas can later be integrated and mixed to form concepts. Ideas are shown in hand-drawn sketches, digital sketches and/or physical prototypes. 2-3 different product versions are selected for further development.

 

mockups & prototypes

Mockups and concept prototypes help validating and evaluating design ideas and concepts.

 

concept sketches

Development of 2-3 concepts, based on (2). The level of the developed designs: defined main dimensions, cut and trim design, materials, visual appearance, usage; showed in photo-realistic renders. Best design can be selected for further development.


1.2. Detailed Product Design

In this design sprint we create the final product design based on the design concepts

• manufacturing technology, if you already decided on one,

evaluation of concepts

Best design concept is selected or merged. Keeping user scenario in mind, we define the final surface geometry, usage, assembly and maintenance process.

 

Parting & material selection

Based on the final surface, we design a solid model cut into parts. We define surface quality and colours.

 

detail design

We take special care on details, especially the ones that are relevant to refine the main functionality and optimise manufacturing.

 

CAD design

We provide real-time CAD data shared in Autodesk cloud. You can download in different formats any time, anywhere. CAD data output from this phase can be directly used for starting manufacturing design – no further conversion or re-building is needed.

 

Presentation materials 

We create photo-realistic renderings for presentation purposes. These can be used in printed or digital communication materials.

Proof-of-concept prototype

3D-printed concept prototypes help validating and evaluating design concepts.

2.1. UI/UX Creative Design

in this design sprint, we map the context and the use case and design a refined user journey, key screens and wireframes

challenge mapping

We start the work with a Challenge Mapping Workshop focusing on the graphical user interface and user experience in general. We translate the high level goals into concrete requirements for the product UI/UX. Challenge Mapping is a 3-step exercise, developed at Maform, that speeds up  the fuzzy front-end of development.

 

mood board

Inspirational images about mood and good UI examples are collected to start a discussion about visual appearance. This helps the communication about visual notions and thus speeds up the process.

benchmarking

We conduct a desktop research to get an overview about current trends and competitor solutions on the market. This helps in positioning the product visually and in terms of user interaction.

 

user journey mapping

Based on user interviews, we set up personas and map the most common user journeys . We sketch interaction map prototypes and summarise high level goals for further interaction map development.

 

layout & wireframes

Layouts show where and how functional 'molecules' are placed on the screens. We design general layouts for all the different screen types. Wireframes show specific layouts for placing every functional element (or 'cell') on the screens.

 

look and feel

The most important screen types are visually designed in this phase, based on available layouts and wireframes. Look and feel screens are also good for testing the functionality of the most important screens.


2.2. UI/UX Detail Design

Where the concept becomes reality: we develop the user interface in detail, with all the screen designs, assets, icons, navigation patterns

final screen design

We design all screens in their final visual appearance: colours, typography, shapes, transitions etc. are designed for all screens.

 

assets, icons, colours

We upload all assets to a cloud based platform, from where you or the software developers can easily download them in any desired format.

 

design guidelines

To facilitate further development, we conclude all design results in a design guideline book. Among the artwork, the book also shows rules and consistencies in the design.

Documentation

Upon request, we provide design documentation for certification and authorisation purposes. This includes the documentation of the process as well as the documentation of the design outputs.
